How PPE Transforms Workplace Safety

Workplace safety is something that every business should take seriously. It is incredibly important to protect employees both physically and mentally. Having the right equipment on-site is the best way to ensure that anyone turning up to work knows they will be looked after and have their best interests protected. Here are some ways in which PPE continues to transform workplace safety.

Why Workplace Safety Is Important

The last thing on your mind when you go to work in the morning is that you will be involved in some kind of mishap, accident, or event that leads to a personal injury. Yet, this kind of thing occurs every single day. Workplace safety means actively seeking to protect everyone in the building or on-site in the most productive, successful ways possible. It is important because everyone deserves to feel safe where they work, and an employee injury can open up a world of pain when it comes to business reputation and lawsuits.

What PPE Does to Contribute

The ways that PPE successfully combats workplace hazards are highly varied. It serves many purposes and contributes in multiple ways toward secure environments and worker well-being.

Injuries

Getting injured at work is commonplace, but the implementation of successful PPE aims to bring about a decrease in accidents and all of the related consequences. The high frequency injuries sustained in a work environment include:

  • Burns
  • Lacerations
  • Broken bones
  • Slips and falls
  • Concussion
  • Other traumatic brain injuries
  • Fractures
  • Vision impairment

However, when things like goggles, gloves, and strong boots are a part of the regular agenda, all of the risk is minimised.

Illness

PPE also works hard to counteract any potential illnesses that could be spread in the office environment. Whether it is becoming seriously ill as a result of contact with chemicals, or protecting employees from viruses, this kind of equipment is highly effective in this respect.

The Most Common Types of PPE

These are the most common types of PPE that keep workers protected during their shifts.

Goggles

Eye protection is very important because you only get one set of eyes, and once damaged, it is often irreversible and incredibly painful. Goggles either work like traditional glasses over the ear or sit around the head with an elastic band to cover all of the eye area. These should be used in any environment where there is heavy dust, chemical substances, or flying debris.

Gloves

Gloves are designed to act as a barrier between the skin and any rough matter that it comes into contact with. The hands are exposed to a range of materials on construction sites and in factories, so they must be kept safe.

Footwear

Strong boots with durable material are necessary to keep the feet out of harm’s way from nails and other sharp objects.

Masks

Masks work to ensure that no one breathes in any dust or airborne particles that would cause internal damage and complications.

The list could go on and on, but what stays the same is that PPE is an integral part of what keeps employees safe at work.
