  • Remove the OST File

You can delete your current OST file that could be creating the error in Outlook. Perhaps, you would be required to take the backup of the OST before you delete it to save all the unstored data. If you forget to do so, you can end up losing all your stored data. 

The OST file is located at different locations on the PC as per the Outlook and Windows versions. All the specific location directories are provided below so that you can find them easily.

Once you find your corrupt OST file using the above locations as per your version of Windows and Outlook, you can select it and delete it. Make sure you make a copy or backup of the OST file before deletion.

After the deletion process is complete, restart Outlook, and it will create a new OST file on its own.

Microsoft has provided its Outlook users with an inbuilt utility to repair the corrupt and damaged OST files. The Inbox Repair Tool Scanpst.exe is a smooth tool to perform the recovery of the Outlook OST files to fix the Outlook is using an old copy error. Additionally, the Inbox Repair Tool is stored in your system at different locations as per your version of Outlook and Windows. Once you find it, follow the below-mentioned steps to repair the OST file.

  • Run the Inbox Repair Tool Scanpst.exe on your system.

  • Hit the Browse button and choose the corrupt OST file from your PC.

  • Choose the OST file and press the Open icon.

  • Then, select the Start button to initiate the OST file scan.

  • As the scan is finished, tick the Make Backup option to keep a copy of the original OST file.
