The Best Apps to Follow the NFL

It’s that time of the season again, when the stakes are high and fans of every team involved in the playoffs start to daydream about their team lifting the Lombardi Trophy. Unfortunately a cursory look at the latest Super Bowl odds would tell fans of every team other than the San Francisco 49ers not to bother…

If by the time you read this Kyle Shanahan’s side have crashed out to the Packers in the Divisional Round don’t hate on us, we’re just calling it as we see it right now. If however you’re reading this in February and the 49ers have won the Super Bowl then sure, go ahead and call us fortune tellers, we won’t complain!

Anyway, putting all that talk of the playoffs to one side for a moment, what’s the best way to keep up with the latest goings on in the NFL from your phone? Read on to find out as we cover all the best NFL apps out there.

The NFL App

Why start anywhere else? If you want to keep up to date with everything going on in the NFL then your best bet is to download the official app. The app has all the latest breakings news from the league, player stats, injury reports and even predictions too.

If you’re looking for an app that gives you a general overview of what’s going on in the NFL and the major talking points you should definitely think about downloading this one.

The Athletic

The advent of the internet has done a lot of great things for our lives, but to some industries it has been utterly devastating. One such industry that looked to be on the brink of collapse up until a few years ago was sports journalism.

People weren’t buying newspapers or magazines anymore because everything they wanted to read was online and free. Fortunately in 2016 Alex Mather and Adam Hansmann created the subscription based website The Athletic and set about attracting the best sports journalists on the planet to come and write for them.

Since then The Athletic has been the home of cutting edge sports journalism whether that be football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey or even soccer. So if you want to read what the very best journalists are saying about your team download this app and subscribe.

(Subscribers also get access to exclusive Athletic podcasts.)

YouTube

Obviously. It barely needs explaining but YouTube is an absolute must for any NFL fan. It’s the best place to find highlights to all the games you missed and it’s also where most broadcasters post their best of pundit clips.

It’s not just a place for watching cute cat videos or whatever people are into nowadays…

(YouTube has highlights of every game available not too long after the final whistle, so if you’re limited on time it’s a great app to keep up to date with the performances of your team.)

SofaScore

Sure, you like football, but do you actually know what’s going on in front of you? Can you work out the trends that are unfolding in front of your very eyes? If not don’t worry, neither can the vast majority of casual fans.

Some can though. That’s because they use an app called SofaScore that gives them real time data and stats on the game that they’re watching. That allows them to have a far deeper understanding of the game and a tactical appreciation that others don’t.

Want to learn more about the game you love? Or do you simply just want to sound clever when you and your friends are discussing the NFL? Either way, you need this app.

The Score

If the official NFL app is a little too clunky for you try downloading this one instead. It allows you to customise your feed so you can see all the latest news about your favourite team and players.

If you’re running a fantasy football team and want to keep an eye on injuries or you don’t have much time and just want to keep abreast of everything that’s happening with your team, this is the best app out there.
