Did you know this about Bingo?

Games bring people together. Whether players are logging in online, or heading to a brick and mortar establishment to play a game of their favourite with friends, the act of playing a game that you enjoy, is something that players all over the world seek.

One iconic game, which is close to 500 years in age, is as popular today, if not more so, than when it first hit the gaming world. We are, of course, talking about Bingo!

With this in mind, we wanted to take a look at some of the interesting facts we’ve found over the years, to see how well you know Bingo – are you ready?

  1. Did you know… Australian players shout something different to those that play in the United Kingdom?

When a full house has been created on a player’s Bingo card with the numbers called, in Australia, players shout “Housie” rather than what the Brits shout – “House”. The gameplay is the same, apart from this call. Once a player has called “Housie” their card is checked and if correct, will be announced as the winner of the game.

  1. Did you know… Margaret is the most common name amongst Bingo winners?

That’s right, of all the winners that have won a game of Bingo in the game’s lifetime, the most common name of the winner is Margaret. Although, if your name is Margaret, you’re not more likely to win a game over your friends, however, if you do win, you’ll be one of many Margarets before you to have been crowned ‘winner’ of a game of Bingo.

  1. Did you know… The Scots love Bingo more than any other country within the United Kingdom?

Although players daub away at their Bingo cards all over the UK, Scotland is home to the most Bingo players, with one in five Scots playing Bingo on a regular basis. Whereas in the South of England, one in 20 players daub their Bingo cards regularly.

  1. Did you know… That despite its reputation, the average age of an online Bingo player is a lot lower than you think?

Over the years, there has been a misconception of Bingo created that alludes people into believing that Bingo is for the older generations. However, this is far from the truth, with the average age of an online Bingo player in the UK, actually being between the ages of 35 and 64. Whereas 65 and overs only make up around 4% of online players.

  1. Did you know… Bingo is more popular than football?

Yes, you read that correctly! Although football seems to dominate the TV channels and the summers, Bingo is actually more popular than football, with more money each year spent on Bingo cards than all footballing events, combined!

Did you know any of the facts above? Will you be saving any in the bank ready for a quiz night or to simply wow your friends the next time you all gather together at your local Bingo hall to daub the night away?
