How To Build Better Self-Esteem in 2023 and Beyond

According to an article in Psychology Today, about 85% of people around the world suffer from low self-esteem. Low self-esteem often festers as feelings that you aren’t doing good enough or won’t be good at new things you try to do. Over time, low self-esteem can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems. This is why it is so important to learn how you can feel better about yourself and happier in your own skin.

Try a Self-Help Program

Life coaches and other experts often provide self-help programs that help people who have low self-esteem to learn more about themselves, why they feel the way they do, and how they can combat those negative feelings about themselves. Some programs focus solely on self-esteem while others, such as 75 Hard, focus on more. You may be asking yourself “What is 75 Hard?”. The program not only focuses on self-esteem but also helps you to learn self-discipline, self-worth, fortitude, and the other traits you’ll need to better your life. This could mean bettering your career, better managing your day, or simply making new friends. Self-help programs are an excellent idea if you aren’t sure to start your journey to self-love.

Create a Self-Care Routine

When you look good, you are more likely to feel good. If you’ve put grooming and other self-care tasks on the sidelines due to your buy life, you may have noticed a drop in your confidence. There is no better time than now to add self-care back into your daily routines. Spend time on a daily skincare routine, take a long bath, style your hair, put on makeup, or do anything else that helps you feel better about your looks. In addition to daily care routines, it’s important to keep up with things such as shaving, haircuts, and even massages, all of which will help you feel better about how you look and may increase your self-esteem.

Speak To Yourself Kindly

Your inner voice is who you hear the most and unfortunately, it’s often your worst critic. It becomes easy to beat yourself up and not even realize you’re doing it. When you berate yourself for missing a project detail or forgetting to set your alarm clock, you start to believe those internalized thoughts about yourself. Would you berate someone else for spilling their coffee? Probably not, so you shouldn’t do it to yourself, either. Take time each day to take a few deep breaths and speak to yourself more kindly. Say a few positive affirmations in the mirror, realize that you’ll make mistakes, and do your best to stop putting yourself down, whether inside your head or aloud.

Work Out More Often

Movement is important for helping your body to release feel-good endorphins, which not only improve your physical well-being but your mental well-being. Think about ways that you can get moving more throughout the day. If you’re someone who likes going to the gym but hasn’t had it in your schedule for a while, start going a few times a week. Perhaps you prefer playing in the backyard with the kids, hiking, or simply doing yoga in your living room. Whether you’re starting a serious exercise regimen or simply committing to getting up and walking around during your breaks at the office, moving your body will help to boost your mental well-being and may improve your self-esteem over time.

Get Out More Often

When your self-esteem is suffering, it’s easy to go into “hermit mode.” If you haven’t seen your friends in months or simply don’t leave the house much outside of work or running errands, it’s time to put yourself back out there. Make plans to go to lunch or dinner with friends and catch up. If you need new people to hang out with, use a platform like MeetUp to find local gatherings of people who have the same interests as you. Don’t be afraid to do things like go to the movies or to dinner alone, either, as doing so is an excellent confidence booster.

Better self-esteem helps you feel better about yourself, have more confidence in your abilities, and become more personable. Use these tips to help you feel better in 2023 and beyond.
