The GoI has initiated 9 more third-generation baby IIMs post-2011 with an endeavour of penetrating the scope of quality Management education in India. Having been operational for five years, how do these institutes perform when it comes to placements and what is the process of being shortlisted ?

Before selecting any of the Baby IIMs, you should go through all details related to the Admission Process of baby IIMs, Seats offered, Courses/programmes offered, Placements records and related details. This article will attempt to answer these questions based on recent placement data available and admission criteria followed by the Baby IIMs.

Baby IIMs Selection Criteria 2022

Baby IIMs shortlist criteria 2022 lay much stress on selecting Qualitative students which is not just benchmarked by CAT exam scores. Baby IIMs Shortlist Criteria 2022 depends mainly on the below mentioned parameters.

●   CAT Exam Score: Each Baby IIMs’ shortlist criteria considers its minimum sectional and overall CATpercentile score between 70 to 95 percentile.

Academic Profile & Diversity: Baby IIMs selection criteria put considerable weightage to excellent academic record till graduation along with candidates having Non-Engineering background. Female candidates are also offered weightage to promote gender diversity.

●  Work Experience: for candidates having relevant work experience of 2-3 years, an extra weightage between 5 to 10 percent is awarded for GD-PI-WAT round.

Admission Criteria of Baby IIMs

Before concluding which baby IIM to opt for, it is paramount for candidates to understand the admission criteria of baby IIMs thoroughly. All baby IIMs initially finalise candidates for the admission round based on CAT scores. On the other hand, other parameters such as academics, diversity, work experience etc. are also considered vital. The key parameters to book a seat in leading Baby IIMs are specified under.

What is CAP 2022?

Common Admission process (CAP) 2022 is considered the final shortlisting process for MBA admission 2022 for all Baby IIMs. CAP 2022 is expected to be conducted in February-March 2022. Exact dates will be declared by the CAP coordinating IIM Trichy after the CAT exam result in 1st week of January 2022. CAP has two main components – Personal Interview (PI) and Writing Ability Test (WAT). However, WAT will not be included in CAP 2022,.

How is CAP Round conducted?

Prior to Covid pandemic situation, CAP round, for all the 9 Baby IIMs, was conducted with the physical presence of the candidates at the Personal Interview (PI) venue. However, later on owing to the intense pandemic situation, the process was conducted online. In the online CAP process, PI is conducted online and WAT is scrapped. Accordingly, weightage for WAT is decided out of the maximum obtained marks. Vital Covid instructions over CAP will be decided and issued by CAP coordinating IIM Trichy. CAP 2022 for MBA admission in 9 IIMs  is expected to start in mid February, 2022 in three phases.

Out of all the baby IIMs, IIM Amritsar, IIM Nagpur, and IIM Visakhapatnam will not participate in CAP 2022 and will conduct their own final shortlisting process.

Baby IIMs Final Selection Weights after CAP 2022

The 9 participating IIMs will prepare the final merit list for PGP/PGDM/MBA admission 2022 on the basis of scores obtained in CAP 2022. Thereafter, these IIMs will announce their final admission offer independently on the basis of the marks scored in PI and WAT in CAP 2022; CAT 2021 test score and other parameters such as academic profile, diversity subject to their individual shortlisting criteria.

Some Baby IIMs such as IIM Jammu, IIM Bodhgaya etc. also consider alternate shortlisting criteria if they have a few seats left vacant after CAP round. For admission on vacant seats, these IIMs also conduct admissions on the basis of Supplementary Admission Process (SAP)
