Do LED light masks actually work?

LED light therapy masks really do promise a lot but do they actually deliver on their promises. Let’s take a closer look at it.

LED masks are things that look like they’re from the future, it looks robotic. In fact, they look like they belong in Star Wars or something like that. They also promise to give you skin that is both clearer and also smoother looking. They are also exactly what they sound like; these are devices that are illuminated by the use of LED lights which you wear on top of your face.

There are some things that you need to know about these devices before you set out to actually go and get one for yourself. You need to know how exactly these masks work and if they work at all or not, how much you may be required to pay for one of these devices etc. In this article, we will try to give you a lowdown on these things and more. So read on to know more about LED light masks.

Are they safe for use?

These devices, the LED masks, have an excellent reputation when it comes to safety. This is according to many properly done scientific studies.

And although you may have only recently started hearing about these devices, they are, in fact, nothing new and have been around for some time. These devices have been around for a few decades and they are normally used by both dermatologists and aestheticians in a setting inside their office in order to treat inflammation that may occur after a facial and to also minimize the risk of breakouts and to give the overall skin just a general boost. Today, it is possible to purchase these devices and then use them within the comfort of your own home. However, if you don’t prefer face coverings, you may use this light therapy device.

One of the main reasons why you may have been seeing these products being highlighted is because of social media. In fact, superstar celebrities have been known to post pictures of themselves using the device on many social media platforms. Chrissy Teigen once posted a hilarious pic of herself on the social media platform Instagram wearing what looked very much like a red LED mask (she also happened to be drinking wine out of straw in the photo, go figure). Kate Hudson also shared a very similar pic just a few years back as well.

One of the biggest selling points of these devices is the convenience that they offer. You can undergo a serious beauty care regiment while sipping on wine in the comfort of your own home; now that seems like an attractive proposition, it really does make skin care look very easy. If the people who buy these devices believe that they work just as well as an in-office procedure does, it will help them save a lot of money, time and energy, things that we all have in limited quantities.

What Does it Do To Your Skin

Each of these masks work by emitting different light wavelengths which can penetrate the skin in order to trigger changes within the skin at the level of the molecules. It is also worth noting that each spectrum of light also does produce a different color in order to target the many skin concerns that a person may have.

Red Light, for instance, has been designed in order to increase circulation and to also stimulate collagen. This makes this particular variety of light the perfect thing that can fight the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When there is a loss of collagen, which happens due to aging and also due to damage from the sun, can seriously contribute to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the skin of a person.

Blue light, on the other hand, works by targeting bacteria that are responsible for causing acne. This variety of light has the very real ability to stop the cycle of breakouts that result from acne. These two varieties of colors, red and blue, happen to be the two most common and also most popular colors that are used. There are also other masks that are available in the market which makes use of additional lights. This includes yellow (in order to reduce redness of the skin) and also green (in order to lessen pigmentation).

Do they actually work?

The research that has been done so far on LED masks are all centered around the lights that were used. If you were to make your decision based solely on those research papers, then yes, LED masks can be very effective for your skin.

Research has shown that this type of device is particularly effective in improving the areas around the eyes which have been affected by wrinkles. When it comes to acne, researchers were able to determine that the use of these devices were effective in reducing the blemishes that result from acne by about 46 to 76 percent after a treatment period of about 4 to 12 weeks. Research that has so far been done on blue light, however, shows that the results are inconclusive when it comes to its ability to clear skin.

One thing that will definitely help you, is to keep your expectations in check. It is important to note that not all home therapy devices are able to produce the same effect that in-office devices are capable of producing. The things that can be accomplished at home will often not be the same results that can be obtained by going to a qualified professional to perform the therapy.
