Games That Will Exist Forever
In this day and age, it’s easy to think that games aren’t meant to last a long time. They come up quickly, become hugely popular, and then die down again. Whether it’s a popular app match 3 game or a sudden hit like word game Wordle, surely none of them can last forever?
In fact, there are some games out there that have been around for longer than anyone knows, and are still highly popular. Here are some games that are most likely to exist forever, in one form or another.
Conkers
Who hasn’t got fond childhood memories of collecting conkers in the autumn, and stringing them on old shoelaces to play? Every child has memories of getting involved, whether it was just to step on the shells to split them and get the conker within, or researching certain ‘illegal’ methods to make their conkers stronger, and therefore the winner.
Even with many schools in recent years banning the game, due to injuries from over enthusiastic play, conkers will be around for years. After all, you don’t need much at all to get started.
Bingo
Bingo as a game has been around for much longer than you’d think. The version played in Britain today originated in Italy in the 16th century. It was then played by the French aristocracy, and then made its way to Britain in 18th century. In the 1960’s bingo halls were hugely popular, and it was seen as a great day out.
These days, bingo has mostly moved online through the many bingo sites, but it’s still a great way to meet others and have fun. The game has evolved to allow for play on any device, and live streaming can even allow for bingo callers and players to be in separate locations. As such, it’s a great way to play and meet others.
Card Games
This is somewhat of a catch all term, but there are more card games out there right now than you can even imagine. Card games have existed for as long as playing cards have, since at least the 9th century. The very first playing cards were found in China, and now are used globally.
Playing cards can be used to play anything from children’s card games, like Snap and Go Fish, to adult gambling games such as poker. Different cards have been made to create collectible card games, such as Magic: The Gathering. Card games have kept evolving over the years, and we’re sure to always have new card games to play.
Skittles
We think of skittles nowadays as Hammer bowling, a sport that’s played at dedicated bowling alleys. The sport known as skittles has been around for centuries though, possibly going back to 3300 BCE in Ancient Egypt. While heading to the local bowling alley is a lot of fun, the joy of skittles is that they can be played any time, anywhere. All you need is a set of skittles and a ball, and you’re all set.
There are plenty of different variations on the game too, depending on where its played. Table skittles have several different variants on their own, and bar skittles are making a come back as a popular pub game. As such, the art of skittles and bowling will always be around, in one form or another.
These are just a few games that are going to exist in one form or another forever. The best games are those that evolve with the times, and allow players to find new ways to enjoy them. Whether you love playing bingo or bowling a few rounds, you’re playing a game with real historical significance.
